At first, I thought LinkedIn was simply one more avenue for wasting time; as a business owner, I want to spend my time focused on progress. How wrong I was! Following are just four of the ways I have found progress AND success with LinkedIn:
-
- While I use Twitter and Facebook to good effect, with LinkedIn, I know my message is always getting “in front” of the right group(s).
- In reading discussion topics and other people’s posts on LinkedIn, I have discovered the ultimate business handbook. Add to that, being able to contribute my point of view to a discussion thread, I have found a great way to connect with other business owners and potential clients.
- Through LinkedIn, I have been “discovered” by wonderful people who have become clients. While I have “Testimonials” on my website, several clients have mentioned that the “Recommendations” section of my LinkedIn profile was their deciding factor in choosing to work with me. What a valuable marketing tool it is to have former supervisors, subcontractors, and current clientele so generously offer their feedback.
- LinkedIn has inspired my creativity. I created my blog so I can comment on such topics as business productivity, office organization, Social Media, and strategies for business growth. I constantly use LinkedIn to research ideas relevant to these topics.

Linkedin is one of my favorite ways to stay open to new opportunities. Plus it’s a great forum to share new thoughts and get input on those propositions. By creating a blog on your work website and adding insightful posts to it, you can then put that link into a linkedin group and get feedback on the post. Plus the traffic of course.
